I am kind of board, so I had to think of some question to ask (lol). Do you think riding is the toughest sport out there? I personally think it is. I've been riding for quite a few years (being a lot), and I have had my ups and downs. I have also played other sports way before riding, and I personnaly think riding is by far the hardest and most unforgiving sport there is. I just thought I would ask if you think the same, some of you might not agree with me, but that's okay. I just want your opinions, thoughts, and feelings.

  1. depends on the sport, but most riding areas are more challanging and dangerous.  there are so many areas in riding, like cross country, eventing, rodeo, endurance, ride and tie, dressage. . . there are all higher levels of danger there then say beach volley ball (not to say nobody was ever hurt playing volley ball).

but yeah, over all there is more danger and challange then a few other sports out there.

    nice/intersting question

edit: there is more of a chance to get killed or have your horse killed in some events then the players of hockey or foot ball have (how many football players this year have been killed playing foot ball? i bet i can google most any riding sport and find at least 10 injured (seriously) riders and at least one horse that was killed, not counting racing cause that's too easy to find injured riders and killed horses)

so the risk of death with any sport that has animals in it goes up. but like i said, riding is more challanging and dangerous then some sports out there, but it's all in what area of riding your looking at. the other thing you have to consider, there is no offical off season in riding like other sports out there. . . there's show season but in some areas of the country that's year round. that's just another point to consider about riding.

  2. Rough Stock (bull riding, bareback bronc, saddle bronc etc.) then Roping, Steer Wrestling, Pole-bending, Reining, Dressage, X Country, Barrels, & Show Jumping....

  3. Hockey is the toughest by far [I just spectate].

    No comparison.

  4. Riding is by far the toughest, and most demanding, sport out there in my opinion, too! You have to control a 1000+lbs animal with all of your muscles, and muscles you would normally not use in other sports too, and if you fall off you could be crushed by your horse (ouch!).

I'm not saying that other sports aren't tough, because they are!

But I completely agree with you! Horseback riding is definitely the toughest (and best, I may add) sport out there :)

Oh! And not to mention we have no padding to protect us, excepet a helmate, and maybe a safety vest.

  5. No that would be hurling.

  6. rough stock rodeo is the toughest sport out there!

  7. Yes. You have to make sure that your horse is cooperating, that you are in the right postion (HEELS DOWN DAMMIT!!!!!), making sure that you won't fall off, and all the while watching out for other riders, things that will freak your horse out (everything lol) swatting flies and keeping your horse moving without running away. And if you fall off no one can save you from being crunched into a mass of broken bones.

But, then again, I love the fact that if I don't stay on I will get hurt.

  8. A sport that requires cooperation between an animal and a human in order to train for it and then successfully compete is, in my opinion, a "tougher" sport than those in which training involves a lone participant, or cooperation between a human and other humans.  It depends on what you mean by toughest, though.

If you just mean which sport is most likely to get you killed, then lots of them would qualify.

My answer is based on the discipline and effort it takes to achieve the kind of perfection needed to compete at top levels.  I think of grand prix dressage as the best example of my definition.

I don't think that riding, at many levels, is the toughest sport out there.  But at any level, it requires some degree of cooperation between the horse and handler.

  9. i totally agree with you...I AM A HORSE LOVER basically said it perfectly...i mean there are so many things to think about when riding a horse and you use completly diffrent muscles than most sports (at least thats what my trainer says)

  10. i think riding, is one of the most demanding sports, but i also play hockey, and soccer and i also think they are very demanding sports.

but in my opinion i say that all sports are tough in there own way, not just physical, a champion trains for years and years, perfecting and scrutinizing themselves to achieve a high level in that sport

  11. Soccer is one of the most demanding Sports on your body. For one you have no pads Except on your shins. 2.) you run an average of 7 miles in a match. 3) you take hits like you do in football. And you never stop running

  12. I think riding is also the toughest sport.. at first I was thinking hockey or football or rugby.. but getting bashed by a 1200 pound animal is alot rougher then being hit by a 200 pound man.

  13. rodeo bullfighting and protection, you have to outhink the bulls and they can run a lot faster than you can so it is a constant turn and fake out and some of the corriente bulls are fast and mean and i have seen more than one follow a bullfighter over the stock panels to get a bullfighter.i am also a barrelman and they have tried to get inside the barrel with me with their horns and hooves.bull riders think we are crazy ,but it helps

  14. depends

i think soccer takes a lot altho it might not directly be phisical it does get phisical must the time and it takes alot

having to play 45 minut halfs vith very little stopage time

its hard because there is so muth running you can get tired but you still have to be able to maintain your ball handleing skill

you cant let yourself get sloppy when you have the ball

  15. I think riding..not becaues I do it but It is a way tougher sport then any other...think about saddle broncs or football which one is harder?

    bull riding or soccer?

    barrel racing or basket ball?

You think about it what sport takes more effort and time?

I mean come on jumping off a horse to rope a steer now you cant say that is easy.
