Toulon player Gavin Henson craving to play
Philippe Saint Andre the Toulon coach has affirmed that the date for Gavin Henson’s comeback has not yet been decided and his involvement in the side is still doubtful. On the other hand, Gavin Henson is running out of time for making an impression with
ball for the upcoming Rugby World Cup selection.
The celebrity midfielder made a move to a top class Top 14 team at the beginning of this year, after giving up the shaky start with Saracens. He was initially used by Saracens as a replacement for Jonny Wilkinson, but then he was sidelined due to a calf
injury. Even though, the 29 year old Welsh rugby union player has recovered, he hasn’t been called on by Toulon.
Henson was suffering through lack of game time in Saracens, one of the major reasons he left, but he didn’t presume that the same would be happening with him in Toulon. The other reason he wanted to leave Saracens was that he wanted to play in his desired
position that is fly half. Saracens was making him play one position down to fly half, where he didn’t get much time with the ball.
Saint Andre, the Toulon’s coach has stated that he is still not sure, when will they call him back for action.
Andre said, “He had a bad injury when he was with Sarries so he couldn't train until the last 12 days. But he sprinted a few days ago and he is due back on rugby training now.”
He added, “He needs to know the system and everything so I am not sure when he will play. He's serious, he's very professional and he's training very hard. He just needs to be free of injury to be on the pitch and that is the important thing for him. He
has not had too much game time in the last two years so he needs game time.”
Even though, Andre has showed his uncertainty, he still believes that he can be a power house for Wales in World Cup and he strongly recommended him for the Warren Gatland’s side. On the other hand, Henson admits that he is ready to play, but it is sad how
long he took to recover from this injury.
Henson said, “I feel good mentally and settled in the team even though it is never easy joining a new club during the season.”
