However, the opposite of all that happened as Alain Casanova’s side beat Remi Garde’s
side 3-0 in a game which they totally dominated.
Defensively, the Pink City side was very good which was the reason why Lyon never got a lot of chances to come back into the game.
In recent weeks, Toulouse have been criticised for being way too defensive and some have even suggested them to be the English version of Stoke City. However, Casanova says that though his side is a good defensive unit, they are equally capable of playing
attacking football which was fairly evident in last night’s win over Lyon.
“We are not a defensive team, we are a team that knows how to defend, and we are increasingly able to create an attacking game.”
As a proof of his ambition, the Toulouse tactician is keen to guide his side to fourth place in the Ligue 1 standings and also says that he will try to go for a third-placed finish by the end of the campaign. Apart from facing Montpellier, Toulouse will
play against the likes of Evian TG, Stade Brestois, Nice, Dijon and Ajaccio so the task is not really that difficult.
“For me, the objectives were achieved and we cannot stop there.”
The recent win over Lyon suggests that Les Pitchouns might turn out to be the main rivals for Lille for third place. And striker Emmanuel Riviere feels that his side can go for the best as they are not under a lot of pressure.
In the 2006/2007 campaign, Toulouse finished in third place so one can expect a surprise on the cards again.
