Tour of Britain to go through Scotland for the second consecutive year
Good news for cycling fans across Scotland after the race organisers for the Tour of Britain announced that the race will take the cyclists across Scotland during the third stage.
The eight-staged race will test the riders around some of the trickiest parcours across the United Kingdom.
Tour of Britain is the UK’s largest cycling race and also one of the biggest sporting events across the country.
Mark Cavendish will undoubtedly be the biggest star of the race.
The Manxman succeeded during the UCI Road World Championships 2011 and is enjoying terrific form in the current season.
Evan Oliphant of Team Raleigh-GAC cited, "It's great to have The Tour of Britain back in Scotland again it's always special to race on home roads in such a prestigious event”.
“Finishing in Dumfries also adds a special touch as I have family who live there".
Race Director Mick Bennett also shared his thoughts on the issue, "We are looking forward to returning, not just to Scotland but also to the Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway this September."
"I'd like to encourage people to come to Scotland for The Tour Ride and to sample the Dumfries & Galloway roads for themselves, then of course they can return on 11th September and sit back".
Tour of Britain started back in 1945 with Robert Batot as the first winner of the race while Lars Boom of team Rabobank succeeded during the most recent edition.
Steve Cummings of Team Sky, Jan Barta of Team Net App, Linus Gerdemann of Team Leopard Trek and Jonathan Tiernan-Locke of Team Rapha Condor-Sharp achieved the next four positions.
The modern version of the British race started in 2004 and was organised by British Cycling and SweetSpot.
The event was a big success and was also added as a UCI 2.3 category event at the UCI calendar.
