Tour of Elk winners ready to launch themselves at Tour of Utah – Cycling News
Tour of Elk Grove winner Luis Amaran will be leading his team to Tour of Utah starting from August 9 and team Jamis-Sutter Home have solid chances to perform well in the Tour according to the directeur sportif Sebastian Alexandre.
Alexandre believed that Luis no doubt is a very good rider but he needs to work even harder on his climbing skills and can only be good for stage wins in the Tour of Utah as he needs to improve his skills on mountains to be a general classification contender.
Luis Amaran was at the second position during stage 2 and with the help of his team-mates he maintained the lead throughout as he finished first with a total time of 5:51:34 and a lead of 34 seconds over Robert Sweeting who finished second after the final
general classifications.
Tyler Wren and Jamie Driscoll are the two top climbers in the team Jamis-Sutter Home and Jamie is likely to have a very good Tour because he is familiar with the courses as he lives in Salt Lake City. Alexandre commented on Tyler as he said, “I don’t know
if he will be able to climb with the riders who are coming from the Tour, but he is going to try. I think he will be up there in the GC.”
Wren who had some impressive performances during the domestic season is more likely to go for general classification in the Tour of Utah. Wren has shown his abilities during San Dimas Stage Race and the Tour of the Gila, he was also in the top 10 list at
the recent Tour of Rio.
Team is hopeful that Tom Zirbel will have good performance in the time trials as he has displayed his sprinting skills over the years as Alexander briefed about the cyclist, “Tom is trialing very well and will have a great opportunity for a stage win during
the time trial at Utah.”
Alexandre shared his views about his team’s chances in the coming tour as he said, “we were really happy with the win at Tour of Elk Grove, it is good for us heading into the Tour of Utah.” He further added that he is impressed by team’s performance and
is satisfied by the way team performed in the Tour of Elk Grove.
