Toure backs City to bounce back
Manchester City's new signing Yaya Toure has said that his team will put Sunday's defeat at Sunderland behind them as quickly as possible during the international break.
City dominated proceedings at the Stadium of Light but were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunities they created.
In injury time, Sunderland's Darren Bent converted a penalty to add to City's frustration.
“I don’t like losing and I think it’s important we put this game behind us quickly, get back to working hard in training and in our next match and move on quickly,” Toure told the club's website on Monday.
Missed opportunities
The worst miss of the game came from City captain Carlos Tevez who, faced with an open goal from ten yards out, astonishingly placed his shot over the bar.
“Nobody is blaming Carlos for his missed opportunity – football is a strange game sometimes and strange things happen, but he is our captain and a very important player for us and we had other chances to score that we didn’t take, too.”
Another miss came from Toure himself as he failed to convert a loose ball inside Sunderland's penalty box in the first half.
Toure yet to settle fully
Toure joined City from FC Barcelona this summer in a deal reported to be worth £24million.
City manager Roberto Mancini intends to use the Ivorian as a holding midfielder alongside Gareth Barry and Nigel De Jong.
Having had only three games to settle in to his new role at the club, Toure insists that better performances are sure to come, from him and the rest of the team.
“I’m feeling strong and enjoying my football, but there is more to come from me and this team. We are mostly a new team and we’ll get stronger together and the understanding will get better each time we play."
City face Blackburn Rovers in their next league game on 11 September.
