Touring at age of 19

Question

ok, im 19, like in the UK, my dad is thinking of going on a trip away and i would like to go with him on a motorbike. just looking for a bike that might be able to 'keep up', me being 19 in uk im limited. any advice would be nice on erliable bikes etc :) thanks

I used to own Kawasaki Vulcan 500 (cruiser style).  It small enough for beginner rider and yet big enough to "keep up" on the hwy with big bikes.  Very easy to ride and low maintenance bike.

Just make sure you get a windshield as hwy riding without it gets very windy.

I'm assuming you have a full, yet restricted, license? You can get any bike you prefer as long as you have the bike restricted, if it need to be, then you will still be legal. As you are restricted it won't matter what bike you get cuz you wont be able to 'keep up' unless your dad stays behind with you.

To put it simply, you can go and buy a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 if you really wanted to, restrict it, and you still probably won't be able to keep up. However, I wouldn't advise you buy that bike though unless you REALLY want to. Most people Ive have taught on a restricted license have usually gone for a bike between 600-750cc.

I advise lots of research, test riding, talking to your dad and/or friends would be good too on as far as what to ride.  And as far as keeping up. . . that depends on what he has, and how he rides.  nearly every 250cc or larger bike will run highway speeds, but it's more advisable to go larger for touring, although a guy did do the alaska bike run, here in america on a 250cc suzuki and that's 10k miles in 3-4 weeks.

My advice is start shopping man, find what you like and go from there.
