Ship-Based

1. In what ways will this type of tourism impact the Antarctic environment – living and non-living.

2. What problems does this tourism cause & how is it currently being managed?

3. How can this type of tourism be managed sustainably to limit impacts while still providing an opening for the world to experience Antarctica?

the Land-Based and Flight-Based questions are the same. Thank-you so much if you answer this question and if you do answer this please put the websites that you got it from. The fastest but most helpful answer will be picked as the best. Thanks!!!

  1. Ship-based tourism is the best for Antarctica rather than having a stay there. As Antarctic ecology is extremely fragile it is better to keep off as far as possible and that can be the biggest contribution from man towards preservation of its ecology.

If the aim is to stay within the Antarctic circle, better to approach from South America. Antarctica Peninsula's islands off 'Graham land' (Alexander Island on its west) may be a good spot. From the tip of S.America (Cape Horn) this place should be about 600 naut. miles (700 stat.miles or 1100 km) as the Albatross flies.

  2. Hi

Check out this site http://www.70south.com/ It will not only give you links to travel, but also give you more information about the bases and information about the Antarctic in general. I had the privilege of over-wintering there back in '92, so if you can go, then go. It's an amazing place
