Question:

Tourist Visa for an American to go to Brazil?

basically this december I plan on enrolling into a language school to help me learn portuguese in brazil. But I only plan to stay there for about 30 days and I know I need a visa.

I plan to get a tourist visa, but on the application it says that I need a contact in brazil (address, name and phone number) If I give them a name of a school will the consolate be suspecious and deny me a visa.

I mean they must know that lots of people go to brazil for a short time and study on a tourist visa.

Also my mother is a flight attendant and we can fly for free there, but we never used a planed flight itenarary nor do we get plane tickets weeks in advance.

So should I just book a flight to show to the consolate (so they know my arrival and departure date) and cancel or change it later after i get a visa.

How difficult is it getting a visa (either tourist or student) I live in Arizona and I'll have to use an agency to get a visa or go to the consolate in LA (wayyy to far and expensive)

  1. Here's what you'll need for a student visa:

It'll cost about $150, and in my opinion would be worth it so you wouldn't have to worry about breaking rules and possibly being denied a visa.

  2. If you are an American, the same they apply to Brazilians, will apply to Americans. Explain all, turist visa is just 100 box, student is more.

  3. hi,

here is the list with the addresses of Brazilian embassies in the USA. pick the nearest and contact it. that's the best option to answer your questions)

  4. You don't need a student visa to study in Brasil.

If you're planning to stay less than 3 months and won't work a tourist visa works for you.

  5. I believe that if you are going as a tourist you don't need to know anyone there... you will stay in a hotel... once you go for the visa interview make sure you have a hotel name, address and phone number.... Best of Luck
