Tourist Visa to Spouse Visa?

My fiance and I plan to get married in April 2009. He currently resides overseas and I in Australia.

Can my fiance come to Australia on a Tourist Visa to get married then he can apply for a spouse visa and then continue to stay on here in Australia?

I think that once you marry he will get a residency, the visa as tourist or fiance can get him there, after you marry he shoul apply for a residency to stay living there.

Yes,your fiance could do it that way but he is leaving himself open to unnecessary red tape with the department of immigration.

Your best bet to avoid any unnecessary red tape would be for your fiance to apply for a fiance visa.
