I am visiting Paris for the first time and will be using the metro to get around to all the sites.

I am struggling to find metro stations for these places, can anyone help? I have already found a few.

Champs Elysee

Sacre Couer

Arc de Tromphe

Any other places you could suggest?

Also, as i am there for 4 days, does anyone know if i should buy a book of single metro tickets or whether i can buy like a 3 day pass for the whole duration?

Many Thanks

  1. Go to the official web site for tourism in Paris or their links.Loads of info' available.

  2. Go to the metro system website at www.ratp.fr to get a map.  You can get the website in English by clicking on the British map at the top right side of the page.

The Champs Elysees pretty much starts at the Arc de Triomphe, so I would take the metro to a station called Charles de Gaulle-Etoile.  Lines 1, 2, and 6 all pass through this station.  Which one you take depends on where you're leaving from.

For Sacre Coeur, you'd probably get off the metro at Anvers (as Rillifane suggests).  This station is on line 2.  Alternatively, you could take line 12 and get off at Jules Joffrin or line 4 and get off at Chateau Rouge.  Again, it depends on where you're starting from.

If you're only there for 4 days, you're probably going to be zooming all around the city, so I would suggest getting either a carnet of 10 metro tickets or a Paris Visite pass.  The pass gives you the ability to get on and off the metro and buses as much as you want without having to worry about whether or not you have a ticket.  However, you have to pay for that peace of mind, so it's up to you.

If you were staying longer, I'd suggest doing more walking because there are so many beautiful buildings.  Four days isn't really long enough for that kind of leisurely pace, though.

Have fun!  It's less than 2 months till my next Paris trip, and I can hardly wait to go back to my favorite city.

  3. The Champs Elysee has several metro stops including one called, surprise surprise "Champs Elysee"

The closest metro stop to Sacre Coeur is Anvers.

The Arc is at Charles de Gaulle - Etoile.

Paris is a very compact city and if you're doing a lot of sight seeing you'll do best taking the metro to the starting point of your day's tour and then by walking from one sight to the next. If you do that then its enough to buy a carnet of 10 tickets which will probably be enough for all four days.

  4. I think you can buy a pack of tickets for metro.

There are sooo many things to see like Place de la Concorde, Montmartre, Quartier Latin, La Défense (it's a suburb of Paris, but it's not far away from Champs Elysee if you go by metro, there are a lot of modern buildings).

There are also monuments like cathedral Notre Dame de Paris, of course  Eiffel Tower, Basilique du Sacré-Cœur on the Montmartre hill, Arc de Triomphe, Panthéon church; museums Louvre and Orsay, also if you have time visit Père Lachaise cemetary.

There are a lot more to see...

    Metro: try these sites

    Have a great time :)

  5. just got back from paris this morning

my best advice for you is to watch pick pocketers and know the basic french words for "thank you", "please", and "hello"

also, before speaking in english to anyone say

    "Parlez vous Anglais?"

    meaning "Do you speak english?"

because if you don't, they are generally very rude to you.
