Tournament of Champions: Ogilvy withdraws from the event
The rumour is true. Geoff Ogilvy has taken a withdrawal from the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
Initially, the player withdrew from the pro-am practice match, but on Thursday afternoon, the player officially pulled out of the event, owing to a finger injury. The Aussie met trouble, while heading back to the course from Hawaiian
beach. He tripped off on a coral and cut his right index finger. The cut was so deep that the paramedics had to give him 12 stitches on the finger.
Ogilvy’ manager Paul Galli spoke to the media before the opening round and did not show any signs of desertion.  However, he did mention the possibility of backing up to avoid risk.
Galli said, “It is not so much a big cut, it's just in an awkward position. It was fairly deep, and when you're on the reef, you've got to be careful with an infection. They cleaned it out and put in some stitches. ... He has not
hit any shots. He was practicing swinging his room and it was giving him discomfort. It's not ideal."
However, two hours later, the two-time winner of the event formally announced that he was pulling out. Galli addressed the press and confirmed the news.  He said, “If he can make a proper swing without any compromises he will play,
but he is not going to make any compensation. He does not want to do that. Guys who've done that before have had long-term issues.”
Prior to Hawaii, Ogilvy was in exquisite form. He won the Australian Open, finished second in the Australian PGA Championship, and held the title of the defending Champion. He wanted to emulate the record set by his compatriot
Stuart Appleby, but failed. The Aussie had three back-to-back victories in his bag.
With Ogilvy gone, the $1.2 million winner prize is open to a field of 33 players. Among the field are 21 Americans including Jim Furyk, Steve Stricker, Charley Hoffman, Rocco Mediate, Matt Bettencourt, Jason Bohn, Zach Johnson,
Dustin Johnson, Hunter Mahan, Bubba Watson, Ryan Palmer, Heath Slocum, Matt Kuchar, Robert Garrigus, and Bill Haas.
