  1. If you like big cities! Nice cathedral and some nice parks. Set between 2 rivers, Loire and Cher. Pretty countryside around the area lots of cafes and bars etc older part  of the city is interesting.  Okay for a week-end but I personally wouldn't want to spend any longer there as there are lots nicer places in France.  I prefer Bordeaux.

  2. France is so pretty! I want to go there again!

Just walking around the cities was so calming!

but a really cute town there is Chartres! I stayed a week there and it was beautiful! But it rained ALOT!

  3. Lovely city with plenty to see including the lovely cathedral and the usual medieval streets lined with very pleasant cafes and restaurants. But, to me, the best thing about Tours is that it is the centre of the Val du Loire, the Loire Valley (which includes lots of other rivers, the Loir, Loiret, Cher, Indre, Vienne, etc) famous for its chateaux. It's also quite close to le Mans and it's quite fun to drive your car down the Mulsanne Straight part of the le Mans 24 hour course - especially towing a caravan like we were!!

Anyway the chateaux:  There are dozens and you really need to buy a Michelin Green Guide "Chateaux of the Loire" (which I have in front of me) to plan circular day trips to visit the best.

As to which the best are, it depends on what you prefer to look at, but you really must see: Chambord (the biggest), Chenonceau (the prettiest) built across the River Cher; Azay-le-Rideau, built on an island in the R. Indre; Cheverney, perfectly symmetrical, home of hunting; Chinon - a medieval castle on the banks of the R.Vienne;  the massive Angers, the Abbey at Fontevrault where Richard Lionheart is buried and dozens more.

Of all the areas of France that I've visited over the past 40 years, I think the area around Tours is just about the best.

  4. It is a lovely town in the Loire Valley. It's pretty and quaint, full of cafes and nice restaurants and with plenty of chateaux nearby to visit. Anybody would like it.
