Want to take tour of ireland. What about self-guided tours? Service provides a rental car, maps and places to stay everynight. You just drive from place to place stopping where you like? Does this exist for Ireland?

  1. It does exists and you can find some really nice inexpensive B & Bs doing this.  It depends where you want to go and when you want to go and what kind of time frame you have.  Driving is a challenge if you never have driven on the left side of the road.  But actually once you get used to the cars going by and Irish roads being very small you can do pretty goo.  I would suggest flying into the Shannon Airport the west coast has a lot to offer that is right there and not hard to find.  Every B & B serves a fulll Irish Breakfast that will keep you going until your evening meal which is around 300P in Ireland and the cost of meals runs from 8.00EURO to 10.00EURO for full meals a lot of food.

Gas is expensive I was just there last month and it was going for 1.12 per litre.  Diesel rental is best for mileage.

  2. you should go to the website of the Tourism Ireland board.  I wouldn't be too keen on a self drive tour...driving on the other side of the road on these really narrow roads with high hedges all around them and no street lights and lot's of roundabouts is a pain.  You would have more fun if you hired a car and driver and had that person drive with you....ask for a driver meeting your same life demographics.  Like  "guy in his 30's who can show me pubs and clubs"  or something like that...it would help you meet local people faster.  Also...a cycling tour of Ireland is a great way to meet local people as a starting point...and you could go on from there.
