Towing a light weight trailer?

i'll be towing a small boat on a boat trailer. the boat only weighs 200 pounds and the trailer is around 150 pounds. the boat is 10x5 feet and the trailer is 14 feet long. i'll be towing with an suv. what is the max. speed is should drive while towing this light of a trailers setup?

  1. No, he is not kidding in theory. Small trailers have small wheels that rotate at much higher speeds then larger wheeled tires so the bearings see lots of wear and tear. That said, we haul ours on the highway at 65-70 mph on calm days knowing the bearings are well greased..


  2. It depends on the max speed recommended by the trailer manufacturer, which is oftne limited by the tires and bearings. Most say about 45mph.

  3. Are you kidding?  45mph for that light of a trailer? I would say when it starts swaying then slow down. you will know how fast you'll be able to go after you get in tow. Is it a dinghy of some type?  Oh and Be sure to tie it down securely

  4. You should be fine with normal highway speed but just look back and make sure trailer is NOTgoing back and forth into other lane. Some trailer with light load might drift by itself.
