Town Hall meeting for Red Sox focuses on Pedroia and Ortiz
If there’s one thing the Boston Red Sox were held to answer for in the recent town hall event, it was the condition of the second baseman, Dustin Pedroia and the designated hitter, David Ortiz. The two players faced their respective problems last season,
as the team failed to make a mark on the league in the games.
Pedroia, who played just 75 games last season before breaking his left foot, has recorded a speedy recovery and will be expected to play for the club again in April, when the regular season starts. Reports claim that Red Sox Manager, Terry Francona was able
to talk to the fans in a Town Hall meeting about Dustin.
"Like anybody that's had a s***w put in (their foot), you have some days where you're like so thankful. You feel those little milestones or breakthroughs, and then, you have a couple days where you get frustrated. "
He went on to say that even though that was the case, talking to the player and the people involved in the rehabilitation process was what would pay dividends for their efforts in getting better results. He assured the crowd that the club was going to check
on him every day, and he personally thought he was going to be okay.
Francona was also able to talk about David Ortiz too. His main focus was on the player’s consistency levels in the coming season. Ortiz had been one of the leading strikers of the ball in 2009 and the unfortunate form of last season summed up his distasteful
resentment for the year. His batting average was low at .222 during the 2010 season.
"For David to be successful - and I see his numbers against lefties, believe me, I do - you can't just sit him, because I don't know if he'd have as much success against righties," Francona said. "I know we believe that."
Terry emphasized that sitting Ortiz against rival pitchers would help soothe the mood and bring the focus up again. He mentioned that if David was struggling against someone, the short break would help him concentrate more on the game.
He mentioned that last April, this particularly wasn’t the case. He had been put under pressure and his main focus was dented as he was struggling against everyone, since the club was exerting to register a good number of wins over the last season.
