Question:

Town Project!?

My small town of about 300 people is hosting a Quasquicentennial (125 years) Celebration. With all the money we raised 25 years ago in 1983, we built a local Centennial center with a Club Room where we host benefits, dances, weddings, anniversaries, parties, basketball games, meetings, and all other sorts of events. This year, we're having some trouble deciding what we should do with the money we raise with our town celebration. Any ideas?? Like I said, we're a very small town so things like a Recreational Center or Senior Citizen Center won't go over well. We have many local contractors, plumbers, electricians, landscapers, etc who are willing to donate time and materials for projects. We just can't decide what to do ... Please, any suggestions are VERY helpful!!

  1. How about putting a playground outside of the Centennial Center?  This would give the little guys something to do while the grownups enjoy the rest of the Center.  All of your volunteers could help, especially if you put in a small restroom, or drinking fountains.  Good luck.

  2. How about sponsoring a home for Habitat for Humanity?  If that's too big a project you could co-op w/them.  Another option would be a town makeover project, helping homeowners w/repairs & sprucing up, planting, etc.

Establishng a scholarship fund would also be a good project.  Instead of waiting another 25 years, the town could annually raise funds to help send another youngster to school.

    Good luck to your town!
