Question:

Toxic Tea? Is this true?

One of my workmates just said that if you leave tea to get too strong it goes toxic and can make you sick.

I’m not sure that is true. Anyone know more about this?

  1. NO

  2. The tannins in the tea are very very bitter alkalines, and it could turn to the toxic level I guess. But it would take a lot of tea leaves and a long time soaking.

You don't need to worry about the stronger-than-average cup of tea. The tannins would have to turn the tea almost completely black, and you wouldn't even want to drink it then.

If you can drink the tea without throwing up, then its not toxic.

  3. 'fraid not - tea can be brewed continuously for days and days without making you ill; my grandma just used to keep adding fresh tea leaves to her teapot with the old ones and wouldn't empty it until it was too full to get anymore water in ! She lived to be 98

  4. Ive heard this else where,

and I dont doubt theres truth to it.

[I tend to leave tea on my desks for days at a time -not a good idea!]
