Question:

Toyota Tacoma Frame Inspection Failure Rate

I own a 99 Tacoma with 177,000 miles on it. I was received my letter about a month and a half ago, and was finally able to get an inspection appt. for this Friday.

My Tacoma is a 2WD model, and almost all the miles I have on it have been driven in PA (heavy salt use in winter). I have to admit, I have not been extremely vigilant in washing the vehicle during the winter.

I was wondering if anyone had a bead on what the overall failure rate of these inspections is?

I spoke with a friend this weekend that knew a guy that took his 99 Tacoma into the same dealer mine is going to, and passed, but his is a 4WD and sits somewhat higher than mine, and also has about half the mileage mine has.

My wife and I have been making plans about what we would do if the truck failed, but haven't really thought about what we would do if it passed.

TIA

  1. I have a 98 4wd. I just got a letter saying they are extending the frame rust warranty. Who cares if it fails...at least it is under warranty

  2. That would depend on where you live, we have been checking alot of trucks and most of them pass, we have had about 10 fail.

Rember they will pay you Blue book value at 1.5 times.

One of our employees had one that faild and he got over $8000 for a base stock 4wd.

Also if you buy a new Toyota Truck you get a Extra $2000, any Toyota Car will get you $1000

  3. They are buying these trucks back in droves. we have about 11 sitting on our lot waiting to be picked up now, and have had probably 30 taken away already. I will say that most of these trucks pass.  If it passes, just continue to drive it and have it checked yearly. Your safety is the most important thing here. If and when it becomes unsafe due to rust, Toyota has you covered.
