What kind of toys or games are you using for your 9.5 months old? I buy expensive toys for my daughter frequently but she just gets bored with them in 1-2 days.. She like to explore all household stuff and the things she shouldnt be playing at this age. Is this normal? Do you also face this problem? How do you deal with it?

  1. I WAS JUST ABOUT TO ASK THE SAME QUESTION.. WAITING FOR ANSWERS TOO.. THANKS FOR ASKING IT..THE THING IS HOW MUCH CAN WE PLAY WITH THE CHILD.. THERE ARE OTHER CHORES TO BE LOOKED AFTER TOO...

  2. babies want to be doing whatever you're doing.  When cooking, I'd give my kids a wooden spoon and tupperware to chew/bang/play with.  Sometimes I put cheerios or blocks in the container and put the lid on loosely so the baby can shake it and try and get it out.  Depending on your child (and her tendency to put everything in her mouth), I gave my son cotton balls when I was putting on my makeup (he's 2.5 now and still calls them "boopboops" because I used to say "boop" as I patted them on his nose).  The trick is to play with your child.  Whatever you're doing, let your little one do something at the same time.  That extra minute to give your little one an activity will save you from being contantly interrupted.    However, short attention spans at this age is common and will grow as they get older (I remember how overjoyed I was the first time my son played for 10 minutes by himself without needing my input).

As far as toys go, I love the learning table for that age http://www.amazon.com/LeapFrog-Learn-Gro... because the music wasn't annoying and it offers a variety of motions (spin, levers, open/close, flip, slide, etc.) for baby.  Plus the legs come off for when the baby is sitting, but it is great with the legs attached for encouraging baby to pull to a stand and cruise around to get to all the activities.

I also rotate toys, I only let my little ones have their choice of a couple and then the next week those go away and a new set come out.  If they look at a whole cluttered room of toys they don't really see any of them.  For instance, we keep one "lovey" that we're trying to help the baby get attached to for sleeping, and then rotate 3-4 toys each week.  A friend and I had babies at the same time and every month we'd switch exersaucers and so the kids didn't get bored and had all new toys and we didn't have to spend twice as much money.  For my toddler, we may keep the legos out for a week or two and then put them away in the closet and get out the little people garage, then the next week it's his train set.  By the time the legos come out again, they're new.

  3. Oh yeah my daughter loves household stuff. She loves plastic measuring spoons and cups as well as playing "drums" with pots and pans. Go out and buy a few household items just for her to put into a "busy box", trust me it will keep her happy and playing for hours and will keep her out of the household stuff that's dangerous.

  4. All expensive toys may not be suitable for all children.

Buy safe toys according to the age of the child.
