Hi! I might be getting 2 girl rats. I am making a chart of all the things I need, where to get it, and how much it costs. I know I need chew toys, but how many? What other kinds of toys should I get? Websites are welcome! :D

  1. bird toys are so good for them. get the ones that hang down from the top of the cage, my rats love them. and that girl who answered before me, Rachel...she knows what she's talking about! i used that same exact site its AWESOME

  2. just get a paper towel roll and put it in his cage or maybe put a lot of them together to make a maze

  3. Yes, you can give them the "Fun-nels". They are available at PetSmart or Petco.

I shop for my rats a LOT at thrift stores and retail shops. If you get creative, almost ANYTHING can be turned into a rat toy!

    Mine have:

PVC tubes, old baskets, straw hats, wooden or cardboard boxes, old plastic toddler toys, garden bricks, a plastic barn, a wooden wine rack. You should also invest in a wheel and a hammock.

There is a plastic car wash I got for $1, a Flip-n-Fun cat toy I got for $5 (http://tinyurl.com/5jty33), a Pyrex "Bake-a-Round" I got at a garage sale for $.25, a hammock I made out of fleece, some ceramic dog food dishes, a Water Buddy water bottle, some 4 inch PVC tubes I got for free, a plastic shark, and a Timber Hide-away for Guinea pigs. There are also a bunch of parrot toys hanging from the ceiling, they were the most expensive part.

You can also give them cat toys, dog toys and ferret toys.

Check out the Rats Rule! forum at Goosemoose.com There is a section called "Home Squeak Home" where people talk about toys and things for their rats and post pictures.

A lot of people will also give their rats "dig boxes". It's basically a small tub or containner with a whole in it and it's filled with shredded paper, shredded fleece, starch packing pellets, or even un-fertilized potting soil (can be messy) for them to burrow and dig in.

  4. Here's a list of homemade toys:

They're all great and your rats will love them :)

    Good luck!
