Question:

Toys for baby registry?

I told my mom that I was preggo, and she was demanding that I put together a registry now (She likes to plan REALLY ahead in advance. Like if I told her we were TTC she would've wanted one back then)

And I was like "Mom, I don't know what I need, other than the obvious (stoller, car seat, bottles, ect...)"

So, she told me stuff and she told me to put lots of toys on there.

What kind of toys are appropriate?

Weblinks greatly appreciated.

Oh yea, I'm registering at Babies R Us and WalMart.

  1. the only toys i put on my registry was the baby's playplace for tummy time and a sassy 14 piece "baby's first toys"....the 14 piece set comes with a whole bunch of rattles, teethers and squeaky toys.  some are for 3 months and up, but many are bith appropriate...i'm also a big book fan, so I'm starting a collection of board books and registered for sassy's "baby's first books"

  3. No, i wouldn't put a lot of toys on there.

I put on 2, one because I am raising my baby bilingual, and its a famous bilingual toy, and another, that can be used from newborn up.

A lot of your guests will buy you clothes and toys, without them being on your registry ( don't register for clothes! everyone buys them!)

Most toys are made for 3 months and up, even more so for 6 months and up, and a large majority, around a year and up.

Don't register for anything that won't get used soon.

You don't need a bunch of boxes sitting around for 6 months.

Register for things that you will practically use, immediately.

Perhaps a set of baby keys, and some of those stroller/car seat clip on toys that attach.

Another idea would be to register for one of those crib toys, like a baby aquarium that plays music and flashes.

Really though, toys are not an important registry item, add less than 5 to your registry.

    Good luck!

    ETA:

    Some important things to add

-Washclothes, burp clothes, and hooded towels

    - Some fort of carrier, like a sling, baby bjorn, your preference

    - nursery bedding and room decor

    - infant first aid kit, infant hygiene bathing kit

    - baby bathtub

Here's my registry, to get a general idea.

If you consider them toys, I did register for a bouncer, and a swing.

If your baby loves them, they will be LIFESAVERS.

Definitely include one on your registry. If baby hates it, you can always return it.

  4. You really don't need a lot of toys for a baby.  You are going to need onesies, blankets, bottles, bath stuff, and a lot more important things then toys.  I woudl only put a few rattles, a crib toy,  activity center, walker/exersaucer, and a few toys that connect to the carseat and highchair.  I would ragistor a lot of diapers and wetones, because you are going to them the most.

  5. Good question!  I never would have known to do that either, but the friend who took me to register was used to attending baby showers, so she was a great help with knowing what to register for.  The only major toy I remember putting on there was a Fisher Price piano.  It was a big keyboard (one of the Classical Chorus toys) and stood on legs, but you could adjust the legs so you could put it sitting on the floor for a younger child, or standing up the regular way when they get older.  It also had hanging toys underneath, so it was something you could lay your child under and let them play.  It was really cool, my daughter used it a lot, and even as a toddler she still loves to listen to the music it plays or play with it herself and play her own tunes.  I've seen other people register for small baby learning type toys (like Leap Frog or Baby Einsteins products), or things like crib mobiles or toy/music bars for infant carriers/carseats.  I also registered for a small travel swing (Fisher Price) that we got quite a lot of use out of.  It was a great (small) size for our apt, and folded up to travel with easily.  Here are some ideas, if you are not quite sure what to look for!

Remember that you can register for toys for when your child is older too, no need to just concentrate on small baby toys.  It's great to have some of those things ahead of time.
