Question:

Tracing Geneology: Finding Jesus's lost family line through DNA testing?

It so happens that with the current DNA testing capabilities everyone's line can be traced back to about 14,000 years ago in Africa, and this can be done by going through either the X or Y chromosomes (tracing all fathers back or all mother's back), as such if God were Jesus's father, not man, then the male decendants of Jesus would have a sudden stop in their male chromosomes dating to the time of Jesus. What do you think?

  1. One thing, you would have to have something with which to compare it.  Genealogy DNA suggests that everyone's DNA began in Africa but I believe it is much further back than 14,000 years.

However, to trace a specific individual's family, you would have to have that individual's DNA and Jesus' is not available.

  2. Well, the chief written record of Jesus' descent, which is really all we have to go by, establishes that He  was descended from King David of Israel. As for descendants of Jesus, what need would he have had for them?

  3. I think you are wrong no matter what you think about Jesus.

If Jesus was a man, as some people say (Hindus, Buddhists, Jews and Unitarian Universalists, for instance), a great moral teacher about whom certain legends have grown, then His DNA was just like other men.

If Jesus was the son of God and the Lord caused a miracle in Mary's womb, surely He would have fixed Jesus' Y chromosome to be just like other men, to make it simple, before the first cell division. The Lord is omnipotent, after all.

This is the genealogy category, not Religion & Spirituality. We rarely discuss anyone born before 1500 or so, because the verifiable records are scarce. If you want to argue religion, post there. We tend to solve problems. R&S posts just tend to argue, over and over again.

If you want peole to respect your religious choices, you have to respect theirs.

So much for the tolerance c**p. Go away. You are annoying your betters.

  4. Are you wondering whether Jesus lacked male chromosomes?  And therefore that he did not have any to pass on?  And therefore that any person without male chromosomes would therefore be by definition a descendant of God through Jesus?  I would suspect that this is an untenable idea.  If you concede the virgin birth, it becomes difficult to ignore the clear biblical teaching that Jesus did not leave sons or daughters to carry on his DNA.

The DaVinci Code is based on a fraudulent story that was known to be fraudulent at the time that the book was written.  There is no basis in history for the idea that Jesus took a wife, had children or avoided the death described in the bible.  By definition, gnostic scriptures claim to have secret knowledge of facts that are not substantiated by "popular" knowledge, but that does not make them factual.
