  1. Rootsweb is the best free site I've found.

  2. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin...

    http://www.familysearch.org/

  3. Here are some links to free sites that I have found really useful:

    http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

    http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

    http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl

    http://www.cyndislist.com/uksites.htm

    http://www.familysearch.org/

    http://www.rootsweb.com/

  4. genes reunited and ancestry.com are the best i have found but you really need to pay to get the most out of them.  if you really want to trace your family history get some software like family tree maker, the one i bought came with 3 months free membership to ancestry.com but i foudn it so useful i paid for the years membership at the end of my free period.  it was well worth it.

  5. Unless your auntie has happened to compile your family tree and post it on the 'net you are not going to find _your_ family history for free or even if you pay money.

This site has links to all the good genealogy stuff :

    www.cyndislist.com

maybe you will strike it lucky.

  6. ancestry.com is good but it is better if you pay

I did my family a few years ago and the amount I paid for the year was well worth it - so much information can just flood through once you register - it makes tracing easy

    Good luck

  7. Sorry JessiiLou, unfortunately, If you want to discover your family history, you will have to either, spend many hours in research, or be really lucky and find a relative who has already done it for you.

Unless you pay them, no one else is going to do it for you

and you can't just go to a website and find it neatly packaged,

I have been working on my own for thirty years now, and still I have not finished it !

Anything that you might find on a website must still be thoroughly re-checked with original records and cross-referenced, to prove it is factually correct. A lot of people

assume that what they find is true, and very often it is not.
