Question:

Track + Field?

I have track and field in one month, and practice starts on Monday. I realize I need much more time, however we were not sure if our school was participating, and we just found out today. I am in grade 8 and have been participating in the same 5 events since grade 4, and I have always made it to cities, coming in either the top 4 or 5 out of the classes. I still maintain a health body weight, and I am still thin, however I have gotten out of shape. I used to be really fast and healthy, and still am but not as fast. I don't jog, because there aren’t sidewalks, and I don't really enjoy it. Does anyone have fun ways to get my speed back, as well as any other tips for how to get back into shape. We have to take place in five events.

The events I take place in are

100m

200m

Long jump

Triple jump

Shot put

Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Run 1-2 miles every day besides Sunday. So I guess run 2 miles tommorow. Then do you other practices (shot,long jump, etc) on Sunday and on Monday morning go for a light jog before breakfast. Good Luck! Track starts on Monday for me too!

  2. I've already gave you a detailed explanation on this same question you posted here it is again.

    I'm on my high schools track team so I'll try to help you out.

    -First off you need a lot more then a month to shape up and get in tone with all those events. (I've been train since late February and my first meet was last week)

    -You don't need a side walk to jog, go to a park or jog on the side of the street

    -You should consider dropping a few events

    ------->TRAINING<-------

    -->Warm up

    -Start as soon as possible

    -Start of with your jog around the block for a warm up

    -Stretch...look up some should takes about 20-25 mins

    -Do drills...(high knees, heel kicks, etc. look some up) [should take about 15 mins

    -->Workout

    - Seems like you a sprinter you need to ask your coach to set up workout schedule or you can make your own. For example (something soft since your starting up).

    - 5, 100m at [70%] 8, 80m at [70%] and 6, 60m at [70%]

    This is just an example of a work out you can add different distances and change intensities.

    -->Cool Down

    - After you main work out jog a cool down...about 600m jog

    Then your work out is done.

    As for long jump however your going to have to have the proper facility and training, I'm beginning mine.

    You should practice 5 days a week for 1:30 mins to 2 hrs

    Eat well and healthy make sure you have your sugars, and your hydrated, you don't want to crash out.

  3. haha I'm in track and field too and I'm in 8th grade.

    I used to be SUPER fast and I guess I lost my touch since elementary school. Everyday after practice my legs and hips hurt, I say you train more, after a while your muscles will get used to running faster ect. We also have shot put it hurts my arms haha.
