Track and Field advice?

Hey guys,

I'm 14 yrs old. Track is coming up and I'm a little nervous and I really wanna do good. I'm not the fastest, but I am pretty fast, don't get me wrong. I think my stronger point is long distance.

I need some advice on how to run the 400m and the 800m. Like do I run, maybe, 80% for the first, lets say, 100 meters? Or do I stay the same speed? Or what? Should I make sure I'm at least the top 3 for the majority of the race? (These aren't my questions, i'm just trying to explain)

I know my friends always go maybe like 85% for the first 50 or so meters for the 800m. The 400m is basically the same speed, except a little faster.

I just wanna know mostly what speed I go in different points of the race. Any other advice, warnings, ideas are welcomed.

Thanks in advance

  1. for the 800, make sure you get out fast.  get into your pace by the 200m mark.  keep up this pace.  after the 1st lap, speed up some. DONT relax on the first 100m of the 2nd lap...EVER! this is where you'll get passed.  then just gut it out the last 300m, and really sprint it in starting 200m from the finish.

for the 400m, start out fast (dont worry about getting boxed in...you stay in your lane) and just keep accelerating up to an all out sprint at the end...sprinters usually do well in this event

if you like distance, i recommend running the 800, 1600, or 3200

and PS, the 800 is NOT a sprint. its half aerobic and half anaerobic

also, dont drink lots of water...you'll feel sick. and about the pasta, carb-loading isnt needed even for a 3-miler even

  2. They said it all, except to drift behind the second person,

drift = have person in front of you take wind for you

  3. keep as close behind the firrst guy in the race as you can, then sprint the last 50-100 meters. basically mimic what the forst guy is  doing. but you need to pace yourself slightly, then sprint your **** off. ahah drinks lots of water and eat tons of pasta, it helps.

  4. During the 400 start off at about 75% and on the back stretch relax but stay with the pack. If you feel to slow speed up, Definitely! Then pick it up at the 200 and you should be sprinting all out by the 100.In the 800 get out and try to take first(if you can).Stay with the pack.Being 14 your 1st lap should bee around 1:06-10.On the 2nd lap pick it up and give it your all at the 200.Good luck

  5. 400- A faasstt sprint..

    -practice on short quick distances.

       -(100s, 200s, etc..)

800- In disntance terms, is also considered a sprint.

    -practice on 400's

-1st lap is quick.. Once your done with the 1st lap you have one more to go. Its really fast..

    Good LUCK!!
