    3) stretch before and AFTER to prevent injuries.

    4) lift weights cuz upper body strength is important

    5) run run and run

    have funn

  2. Make sure you train hard leading up to the day when you try out. Do speed work and long distance too. Make sure you stretch and it always helps to do agilities. Go to this site it can help you with a lot of different things.

  3. 1. GET GOOD SHOES. The saying "Its not the wand its the magician" is true, BUT a good wand doesn't always hurt. Good shoes means: comfortable, stable, and durable.

    2. Prepare. Tryouts and the first about 2 weeks of a tack season are usually ALL conditioning, so get in shape before you start the season. Every day from now until tryouts go out and run 1 or 2 miles everyday. BUT don't start out running them at around 12 mph. Start out going around 6 or 7, maybe 9 or 10 if your already in good shape. And then get faster and faster as it gets easier and easier.

    3. DON'T USE A TREADMILL. Unless if it is absolutely necessary (Its raining/snowing, or other dangerous conditions) just go out side and run outside. Either on the road or on a track, just get outside. This allows you to steadily get adjusted to the air outside, and how it changes.

    4. Bring some music. When you go run bring your iPod along with you and listen to some good pump up music. This will help you keep a good, steady beat which will help you train better. BUT if your listening to some slow music, it'll slow you down, I'd suggest listening to something along the lines of Aerosmith's album PUMP.

    5. BE SAFE. If you MUST run at dark then wear bright clothes OR drive to your track and run on the track.

6.STAY HYDRATED. Drink A LOT of water and/or gatorade. Gatorade is better for you because of the electrolytes, but if your low on cash and don't have enough for gatorade water will do just fine.

    7. Ask some seasoned track runners how they prepare for the season. Ask them for running advice, warm-ups, form runs, etc. They've already made the team, so they obviously know how to make it.

    8. Train for what YOU want to do. If you want to sprint then you should be preparing to be a sprinter, not a distance runner, and vise versa.

9a. SPRINTING. If you want to be a sprinter then you have to be able to sprint for upwards of 400 meters. This will take lots of stamina, BUT you also have to be able to do it fast, which will take a lot of muscle. This means you have to not only run, but hit the gym too. Work upper and lower body equally. Your legs can only work as hard as your arms.

9b. DISTANCE. If you want to be a distance runner then your going to have to be able to run at a solid pace for upwards of 3000 meters. This will take an EMENCE amount of stamina (I as a sprinter have the upmost respect for distance runners because i could never run 1500 meters let alone 3000). This means your gonna eventually have to up your runs from 2 miles to somewhere near 4 or 5 miles.

    10. HAVE FUN!!!!!!! This is the most important thing of all. Track is a serious sport but it is also a very laid back sport. Track runners are serious but still like having fun. Just because you didn't win a race it doesn't mean you have to leave pissed off. If you didn't win just comeback and try again at your next meet. ALSO if you don't like track don't do it. If your going to do something make sure your head and your heart are both in it.
