Track nicknames?

might as well do all the nickname questions at once...

darlington is known as "the lady in black" or "the track too tough to tame," dover is known as "the monster mile," and indianapolis is known as "the brickyard." these are just a few of the nicknames that tracks have acquired through nascar's history.

which track's nickname do you like the most and why?

if you could give a track a nickname, what would it be and why?

my answers:

my favorite: "thunder valley" (bristol) - i'm guessing that's what it sounds like.

if i could give a nickname: "the yawn" (fontana) - it's fairly obvious, isn't it?

if you need help thinking of some tracks and their nicknames, check out the following link: http://drinkthis.typepad.com/answer_this/nascar_nicknames/index.html

  1. Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Track in Mexico City  is "The Sleeper" or "Snoreworthy" Track.  I just don't care for road racing that much.  I don't think going around a corner at 45 MPH "racing" as I know and love it to be.

"The Rock" at Rockingham was my favorite.   But I enjoy them kissing the track altogether at "the Brickyard".  !!!

  2. The Rock

    Thundervalley

    Monster Mile

All the 1 1/2 mile copy cats or COOKIE CUTTERS(Vegas,Chicago)

  3. Mine is the Brickyard just for the historical significance of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and keeping a strip of the original bricks, it was made out of, at the start/finish line.

  4. the beast of the southeast-lowes

    monster mile-dover

  5. i would nickname california speedway

    a waste of time

  6. I used to like "The Rock"  But since we don't race there anymore I like "The Monster Mile".

  7. The Daytona Express.

The brickyard is really named that way because it was paved with bricks. Not sure if that is a nickname or not. I guess it could be though.

  8. Thunder Valley, one of my favs, of course.  And going to a race there does sound exactly like that!

LOL, I gave Richmond a nickname a while back ... I call it "My Track" Hahahaha!  It's only 45 min from me and my fav track on the circuit.

  9. I love the Beast of the Southeast!! oh yeah, that would be LMS in Charlotte!! and she is a beast, just when you think your driver has the win she sticks her head out and says, "Sorry Smoke, not this year..."

  10. I like Bristol's nickname, Thunder Valley. If I could give any track a nickname, it would be Talladega. I would call it 'Home of the Big One' as a reference to the epic crashes that happen at Talladega.

  11. "The monster mile" is my favorite because of the extremely cool monster trophy and statue.

I live near "thunder valley" and it does sound like thunder when they get the cars going. It is extremely cool.

  12. NHIS is the "Magic Mile"  but I call it the "Boring Mile".  I went to last years summer race up there I think there were 4 passes for position the whole race.

  13. I like darlington "the lady in black" I'm guessing it's cause she's all marked up by the time the race is over!!! she also leaves her mark on our drivers cars LOL!! I also like Bristol "thunder valley"  It does sound like thunder when your there (I'm told...our friend goes every year!! lucky dog!! LOL)

  14. Monster Mile

  15. The ROCK was the best nickname.

I vote that track back into the season for the Sprint Cup Series.. PLEASE HUMPY!

  16. martinsville the paper clip

bristol the worls fastest half mile

  17. It's Thunder Valley for me.  It not only sounds exciting, it IS an exciting racetrack.  It embodies the best of NASCAR:  loud, fast, emotional, and southern.

  18. white lightning(dover)

  19. My favorite is Thunder Valley..
