Tracking IP Addresses?

Okay, so someone on Y!A told me they were going to track down my IP Address and get my local SPCA on me, for neglecting my dog. All I did was say he fleas :( I even said I was taking to him to the vet! I didn't do anything to neglect him, they just assumed. Well anyways, could they really do this? I know I didn't do anything wrong, but I'm still worried if they really do. It would cause alot of hassle -.-

  1. there is no easy way for them to track your ip address without having access to the location where you use the internet.

  2. First, they'd have to have some means of getting your IP address. Without access to the server logs of the site you were connecting to, they're up a creek.

Yes, it is possible that they could contact your ISP based on your address, but without a warrant or some other legal proceedings it's unlikely they'd have any grounds to stand on. Your ISP wouldn't care enough to follow up. You saying your dog has fleas is not a realistic grounds to invoke the judicial process.

I think they were just trying to scare you. Brush it off and move on.
