Tracy McGrady: LeBron James and Dwyane Wade look terrible together
Detroit Pistons guard/forward Tracy McGrady ripped the struggling Miami Heat, saying that their struggles this season were caused by the inability of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to complement
each other’s games.
According to McGrady, James and Wade were used to having the ball in their hands in their first seven years in the league, and with both of them and Chris Bosh sharing the basketball during
their games, all of them are having a difficult time finding their usual rhythm.
“When they're on the court together, they're terrible,” said McGrady. “LeBron and D-Wade don't complement each other.”
McGrady also compared Miami’s big three to the Boston Celtics’ version of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. The 31-year-old guard said that Pierce, Allen and Garnett are not the same
types of players, unlike James and Wade, who both need to dominate the ball to find their rhythm.
“If you look at Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, Allen is a traditional shooting guard,” McGrady said. “Ray Allen, he doesn't need the ball. And Paul Pierce is a small forward. You add Kevin Garnett.
LeBron and Wade, they are not like that. Both of those guys need the ball and they don't shoot the ball like Ray Allen. That is why they are having trouble scoring in the half-court because they cannot get a rhythm, because one of them is dominating the ball.
That guy might be getting off, but the other guy isn't.”
McGrady also added that James would have been a better fit in Chicago, because Chicago Bulls superstar Derrick Rose is more willing to share the basketball than his current back-court partner,
Wade. “It was a better decision, a better place for him,” he said.
And when asked about his thoughts on James' signing with the New York Knicks, McGrady, who played for New York last season, said that he was quite sure with his statement before that the
two-time and reigning Most Valuable Player would not sign with the Knicks. However, he clarified that the Knicks made big moves that made them a play-off calibre team this season.
“I told you that was not going to happen,” McGrady said on LeBron’s decision to snub the Knicks’ offer. “They obviously added an All-Star in Amar'e and a guy that I think will help them.
Raymond Felton is a great addition for the team. It seems like he is playing with a lot more confidence than he did in Charlotte. I think they're capable of making the playoffs.”
McGrady played 24 games with the Knicks last season and averaged 9.4 points per game, and he admitted that he had a difficult time adjusting in Mike D’Antoni’s system.
