Tracy McGrady is a man hard at work to find a new gig in the NBA.
McGrady was once one of the elite scorers in the NBA, and is a 7 time All Star. However, injuries have slowed down his career in the league, and he has been limited to a backup role with limited minutes over the past few seasons.
This past season, McGrady played for the Atlanta Hawks, but averaged only 5.2 points while playing 16 minutes a game. The player is now looking for a new team that will be willing to offer him a guaranteed contract. McGrady auditioned
for the Charlotte Bobcats a few weeks ago, and now Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports has reported that the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks are next on his list.
“Still searching for an NBA franchise willing to guarantee a contract for next season, seven-time All-Star Tracy McGrady worked out for the San Antonio Spurs this week at the team’s practice facility, league sources told Yahoo!
Sports. Next up for McGrady on Thursday is a workout for the New York Knicks, league sources said. Time is running out for the 33-year-old McGrady to secure a guaranteed contract for the season,” reported Wojnarowski.
McGrady is one of many NBA veterans like Kenyon Martin and Derek Fisher who are finding it difficult to land guaranteed deals under the new CBA. McGrady is still persistent about a guaranteed deal, which will see him play the entire
of the next season for whichever team that signs him.
However, Andray Blatche and Josh Childress recently signed non guaranteed deals with the Brooklyn Nets, and it looks like that is the reality in the NBA of today for veterans looking for a backup spot.
McGrady is still a skilled player. He can prove to be a great asset on the bench, while at the same time mentor some of the younger players on the team. However, as it stands now, he might have to choose between signing a non guaranteed
deal with an NBA franchise, or moving overseas to play in some of the international leagues, like China or Europe.
