Teixeira in play....at least until Papi shows he's healthy

"The Red Sox have talked to the Braves about free-agent-to-be first baseman Mark Teixeira, and more conversations are likely to take place before the July 31 trading deadline, according to well-placed major league sources. ESPN's Peter Gammons was the first to report that the talks had taken place, and it is true that the Braves asked for first baseman Kevin Youkilis and Craig Hansen in return. Would the Sox make that deal? Not at the moment, but the message they left with the Braves was keep us in mind. The Braves, according to those sources, have their doubts that the Sox would move Youkilis, because of his ability to play both first and third and his defensive skills at both positions. "

Think its possible?

  1. ehh idk Kevin Youkilis is a good utility player and Mark Teixiera's batting average is down

    but yeah its definitely possible.

  2. No way! They would never trade him! ARE YOU SERIOUS!? :)

    Go Cardinals!

  3. I dont think the RedSox would make that deal.  Youkilis helped them win the Series last year so I dont think they would trade him.  If they make a deal it will be one of those extra players nobody wants, where they wont have to give up any big name players.  Its going to be a good finish,  the Rays, RedSox and Yankees are going to battle til the end.

I am a Los Angeles Dodger fan, we will give you guys Andruw Jones for Manny Ramirez.

  4. Yea I heard about it. But then again, I also heard that that trade rumor has been shot down by the Red Sox.

I want to see it happen because Teixeira is a great player but if doesn't I'm not going to be heartbroken. It's a interesting trade but I believe the Red Sox front office have already denied this trade proposal.

  5. I also heard the rumor, but i don't think it'll happen...I heard if it did, they Red Sox would move Lowell to SS,Youkilis to 3rd Base, and Teixeria would stay at 1st base...I hope he goes back to the AL though.

  6. It's possible yes, but the Sox would ask for a window to negotiate a longer-term deal for Teixeira who's currently a free-agent to be. If they could tie him up for 5-6 years at JD Drew type numbers (14 mil/yr) then they'd probably make the deal.

I'm a huge Youk fan and would hate to see him go, but Teixeira brings so much more to the table, you'd have another "Big 3" in Boston Sports (Teix, Ortiz, Manny).

  7. I don't think I would make that deal if I were the Red Sox.

Money may grow on trees, but it was only last year that people were asking "where did Tex's power go?"

I'd stick with Youkliss myself, but I've never been a GM either.

  8. Youk isn't going anywhere. He's too valueble with his skillset be way above Teixeira anyways minus the power....for now. Its up in the air who might go to Atlanta in case of the trade. The Sox have no starters that are worth losing to get Teixeira. He's a better fit for the Yankees anyway.

  9. I think Boston should make that deal.

  10. The Braves would be VERY dumb NOT to try to resign Texeria. I am a Braves fan and they haven't had a decent, quality 1st baseman since McGriff and/or Big Cat.

They, at the very least, try to resign him. If it doesn't pan out....then bye, bye Tex but at least make a offer to resign him.

  11. This would be a bad trade for the BRAVES.

Youkilis is so over-rated as it is.......
