Trade Storm succeeds at Meydan
Trade Storm stole the show in a Group 2 encounter at Meydan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday, March 2, 2012. He was not rated as the favourite to succeed, but took the field by surprise in the end.
The five-year-old horse entered the competition with a starting price of 5 to 2, which was not bad at all. However, he was up against some quality performers such as Musir, who had won the confidence of the bookmakers and the punters.
Despite that, Trade Fair’s son did not panic at all and delivered one of his best performances overall. He started off slowly and was right at the back of the field for quite some time. However, he did not allow his rivals to get away and kept on gaining
places, as the race progressed.
Once the finish line approached, he increased his speed and gained lead over his opponents. The margin of his victory was one and a half length at the end of the day, which would have been quite pleasing for his fans.
The seasoned runner was unable to start off strongly in 2013, as he struggled to perform in his first race of the year. He had to settle for a disappointing 11th place, but improved his performances afterwards, winning a couple of back to back
events.
Overall, he has appeared in 21 contests, winning five of them whereas finished as a runner up twice. In addition to that, he secured the third spot once in his career.
Following his successful run at Meydan, his jockey Jamie Spencer said, “I wanted to track Musir ideally but we lost ground at the start so I have had to take my time. I was looking for a gap as we turned in and he just picked up the bit and really quickened.
You have to be impressed.”
On the other hand, Ahzeemah ended up victorious in a separate event at Meydan and his team was delighted too.
His trainer Saeed bin Suroor stated, “The horse deserved that having been second on both previous starts but his last start in England was a good win at Ascot. He is only four and still improving.”
