Trade between Philadelphia Phillies and Texas Rangers depends on Michael Young, sources say-MLB
Sources have claimed the only reason why the trade between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Texas Rangers involving Michael Young cannot materialise is the no-trade clause that the infielder has the power to exercise in his existing contract.
A couple of days ago, it was reported that the Rangers are aggressively moving ahead in their negotiations with the Phillies concerning the trade of Young.
They were ready to agree on a deal which could ensure them quality prospects available in the farm system of the Phillies.
Inclusion of Young in the Phillies’ roster can go a long way in strengthening their offence. With an incredible record as batter in the past, Young can prove a healthy addition in the line-up.
Only downside regarding Young can be his age and the decline that he started to experience in the last season.
The Phillies cannot ignore the possibility that the Rangers want to get rid of him because they do not consider him a reliable batter anymore.
If Philadelphia puts this argument while negotiating with the Texas, they can fetch a better deal, the one that results into a fewer number of prospects leaving them in exchange for Young.
Young played for a single organisation throughout his career.
Departing the Rangers when his career is closing in on an end will take away from him the distinction of starting and winding up his Major League expedition with only one team.
That can possibly encourage him to invoke the option of a no-trade clause in his existing agreement and make sure he stays with the Rangers.
So far the utility infielder has not given his verdict. Within a next couple of days, information regarding his intention about a trade can be received.
The Phillies had a forgettable 2012 season campaign. From their offence to defence and the starters to the relief pitchers, they were below par. They failed in almost every department of the game.
Their dismal show has resulted into a massive hue and cry coming off from the fans.
For the same reason, they are h**l-bent to rebound next year and attain the glory of winning the Division title that they won for five years before 2012.
