The U.S. does it when they don't agree with the policy of a country, so has anyone ever done it to the U.S. for similar reasons?

  1. i wish the whole world would. we would eventually be completely independent considering that we have all of the resources to support ourselves if we would just use them, but as long as we wont, we will always be subject to such threats.

  2. That's exactly what the 1973 oil crisis was...an embargo of oil by OPEC.

Try imagining that happening now.  If OPEC did it again, it could potentially cripple the economy almost overnight.

  3. No. Trade embargo's accomplish nothing.

  4. I clearly remember an embargo placed on America by the OPEC nations in the early 70's - it essentially crippled our economy and led to federally mandated price and wage freezes, long lines and sporadic violence at the gas pumps and a general nose dive in our quality of life.
