Trade of R.A. Dickey will not reflect pessimism of New York Mets, clarifies Sandy Alderson-MLB
General Manager of New York Mets, Sandy Alderson has explained that if R.A. Dickey is traded, it will not mean the end of their hopes.
Stating that he is in search of match-winners in exchange for him, Sandy has expressed optimism about the team’s chances in the upcoming season.
Start of the Baseball Winter Meetings has led the fans to wonder how their respective teams will decide about various players’ future.
Dickey is one of those star players that await a decision from the Mets at the moment.
While earlier it was expected that he will be retained by the club through a contract extension, for now sources suggest he will most probably be traded.
Sources have added that GM of the club was extremely busy on the first day of the Winter Meeting as he had to entertain interests shown by several clubs for his acquisition.
This means that the negotiations which were earlier underway regarding the renewal of Dickey’s agreement have almost come to an end. His trade appears to be the only option left with the Mets after they nearly failed to agree on terms and conditions of his
new contract.
The Boston Red Sox are among the front liners to obtain Dickey from New York through a trade, because they possess the outfielders and infielders in their farm system required by the Mets.
Alderson realises that exclusion of Dickey from the club will result into disappointment for the fans. For the same reason, he has tried to assure them that it will not play havoc to their chances in the 2013 season.
"Are we punting '13? Absolutely not," Alderson said. "This is not about making a trade for four players from the Appalachian League. You have to balance the quality of the player with the potential arrival date of the player, obviously. That's something
we're trying to do. But it is important for us if we're going to do something -- and I want to emphasize, we may not -- if we do something, we want whatever comes back to us to have an impact on us as soon as possible."
All depends on the kind of prospects the Mets acquire in return for Dickey. If they are capable of winning games for the team consistently, fans will forget the grief of losing Dickey soon.
