Trade or no trade: QB Colt McCoy stays with Cleveland Browns, for 2012 season at least-NFL News
The future of Cleveland Browns’ quarterback, Colt McCoy, has taken a new twist a couple of days after the team’s general manager, Tom Heckert, said that they were planning to seek a trade for the player.
Now, the GM has said that the QB is going to stay at Cleveland, apparently reflecting on the decision that they will not trade him to another side around the league.
Heckert’s statement of taking a final decision on McCoy’s future came after the team had picked up a new draft QB, Brandon Weeden, in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, which was held from April 26 to 28.
Some sections of media had earlier reported that Browns had told McCoy they will not be signing a new QB in the first round of the draft, which they did at the end.
Now the team has denied having made such an assurance to McCoy before the draft. There is no confirmation or denial of these reports from the player himself. He is apparently being carried away into much controversy around his stay in Cleveland.
Apparently, Browns’ managers have clearly sounded that they will not waste any time to put the new QB on the starting line, and almost all commentators agree in their view that it will indeed be the final choice of Browns.
With the latest clarification that the Browns will not trade McCoy, some game analysts say that the player should be ready to accept playing at a backup position.
Browns finished the 2011 NFL regular season with the record of 4-12. McCoy missed the last three games of the season due to a concussion that he suffered in the game against Pittsburgh Steelers. He started 13 games in the season.
Overall, he has managed a success ratio of 6-15 as the starter, not an encouraging performance from a player who has already played a couple seasons at the same position.
Interestingly, McCoy has remained into controversy at both ends of his career at Cleveland during all this time. Somehow he still is successfully sticking around the team.
