okay, the best way to approach this project is to look at a handful of countries.

Start with the most successful one, Argentina.

Than try a country that fell prey to using cash crops, say Honduras.

Finally, go with a country that is adapting quite well lately, Chile.

Oh, we should throw in a Carribbean island, say Haiti.

Then definitely throw in NAFTA and Mexico and CAFTA.

Oh, and Panama and the canal, and perhaps Columbia and the drug trade.
