Trade rumours are rife about the Philadelphia Phillies’ right fielder Hunter Pence. After the Phillies have concluded their deal with the starting pitcher Cole Hamels, attention will be on those players that have struggled to perform well in the season.
In this respect, Pence can be one of the first players that will be traded.
There are no indications as yet about which club he will be traded to.
Before rumours about Pence’s trade surfaced, the reports were coming that the shortstop Jimmy Rollins is also one of the players that the Phillies are considering to trade.
However, since then there has not been any confirmation made in this regard.
Keeping in view the last position of the Phillies in the Division table, it is just natural to expect that the management will start focusing on future. By adding new prospects on roster that can become club’s asset within few years, the team officials will
be restructuring the roster.
Meanwhile, Pence says that he is not informed about the trade negotiations and that it is for the first time that he has heard anything like this.
Pence, understands that he has not been at his best this year. Therefore, if the Phillies actually send him to some other club, he will not be unaware of why the organisation will do this.
“It did last year. Not much this year,” Pence said. “So, like I said, today is the first day I’ve heard of it, so it hasn’t really sunk in or anything. Like I said, I’m happy to be here and I’m looking forward to playing today, playing to win.”
Ever since Chase Utley and Ryan Howard have joined the line-up, the Phillies’ offence has strengthened. Therefore, if Pence is out, it will not affect the team much.
Meanwhile, Phillies’ manager Charlie Manuel commented on the performance of Pence in the season.
“I think he is the one guy (who) puts a lot of pressure on himself,” Manuel said. “He wanted to do more. That’s who he is. You can’t help that. If he relaxes and plays his own game, you’ll see a better Hunter.”
Within few days, one can believe that developments in this regard will take place and that some official announcement will be made.
