Trade talk in air as Jacksonville Jaguars, Maurice Jones-Drew stay on bad terms – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars and running back Maurice Jones-Drew continue to thrive on bad terms, especially after owner Shahid Khan said that Maurice’s ongoing holdout has not moved even a needle as far as missing his absence is concerned, but general manager
Gene Smith still has ruled out a possibility of entering a trade deal for the player’s move elsewhere in the league.
While Khan insists he has no regrets over his comments, which were not taken by the player in good context and are unlikely to facilitate a solution of the issue, Gene said “Maurice is a Jaguar.”
The GM told a local newspaper he does not intend to deal the player to another team in the league but did not elaborate the chances of reaching an amicable conclusion of the holdout.
Gene during one of his remarks earlier in the offseason made it clear to the player that the team expects him to play on terms of his previous contract, which still has two years left on it.
Later, the owner added fuel to the fire saying Jones "doesn't even move the needle" due to his absence from the team. He said:
“This is not a team about one person. Train's leaving the station. Run, get on it."
Now again he was asked about his remarks and he said: "I have absolutely no regrets."
Although the player himself has not reacted to those comments, his agent Adisa Bakari while raising an issue of respect said:
"Maurice wants to play for an organization that wants him and for an owner who respects him and values what he brings to a team - on the field, in the locker room and in the community."
Amid the scenario the situation does not look an ideal one at Jaguars’ headquarters that a positive outcome on the matter of the player’s deal can be hoped out of it. In fact both sides are likely to continue to be on bad terms.
The running back through one of his rare statements earlier said he wants to be a Jaguar but a section of media has cited unconfirmed reports hinting at the player’s willingness to explore the trade option.
