Trading website links?

I'd like to host a link in my website (a link to another website) in exchange for the other webmaster to do the same (host a link to my website). I'm sure I need to contact the webmaster of the site of interest, so what is best way of to set up our links agreement?

Also, any advice or tips anyone with experience can give is welcome.

What kind of traffic do you get? What kind of website do you have? Offer to put a link on your website - put their link on first - and then ask webmasters to put your link on their websites in exchange. If they won't reciprocate then take their link off, but give them some time to respond.  I don't think there needs to be any agreement unless you are talking about your website having 10's of thousands of hits a day.
