Question:

Tradition and religion forge shackles of oppression for women - Do all cultures deserve respect?

In my opinion all cultures are not equal and some in fact are quite repellent & do not fit into the British liberal culture.

"Last Saturday night Taliban militiamen burned down seven girls' schools in Pakistan, bringing the total they have torched in the last two months to 70."

Why is it you get the PC brigade on 'your' back if you point out the failings of other cultures?

  1. Sure?

    It's tradition or religion?

    Look in the real world.

Is it not custom and culture of individual community that is making a misery out of those poor women with self lack of knowledge.

Being oppress with slavery in idol worshiping the dead Mummy with self lack of knowledge with the Book of the Dead of failures and horrors of the Past?

From the graveyards of different ghostly ancestor's culture and custom?

When one is not even an Arab but tribe of a Rudeness tribe.

With cheap-skate ghostly stories on tribe with non-existence rights of original descendant.

    Luke 3.7-9

In short-chaning, conning and deceiving them with their self lack of knowledge in broad daylights?

Over a one man's great dreams as king of the jew?

With crwon of thorns and two empty hands with two balls?

    Matt 27.29,37

    Exodus 20.1-7

    Leviticus 26.1

    Exodus 23.24.32

    Leviticus 4.13, 22

    Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49

    Luke 8.5-8,10-17

    Luke 9.25,55-56,60

    John 8.44

    Matt 23.27

    Matt 22.32

    Matt 22.17-21

    Luke 16.13

    What do you think?

  2. NO, because respect has to be earnt.

  3. I agree with you.

A few years ago, I was going to college part time.  One of the college publications had a cover article called "The Myth of Multiculturalism - Not All Cultures are Equal."  This got many people VERY upset, and there was a big debate on the campus.

The same week, a girls' school in some Muslim country caught fire.  (I think it was Saudi Arabia, but I am not sure.)  The girls in the school had not been expecting to have to leave the school in a hurry, and were not dressed properly.  The police would not let them out of the burning building where they would be around the male firefighters.

  4. Good point. And who is going to tell South Africa that she is supporting the destruction of Zimbabwe by supporting Mugabwe? That would be SO not PC.

  5. It's probably because Taliban militiamen don't really represent the whole of Pakistani culture. There is, of course, a problem when most of a culture is defined by its religion, it stifles the course of normal everyday life when you try to fit everything that happens to a set rulebook.

The aim has always been to allow people to think what they like (and that includes practising religions), the only problem is when this spills out into public acts. At that point the law needs step in. That's the benefit of a law separate from religion.

  6. Well depends what traditions your talking about. How about Chivalry? Being a gentleman? Those are traditions that we idolize that seem to be almost extinct in our society.

  7. I suppose we could look at it from outside ourselves. Most countries in the middle east have been kept in a constant state of disarray, and who would be fanning the flames well of course our "British liberal culture" by voting in our liberal government. We should really be climbing down off our high horse and try and do something constructive.rather than sending the troops in.

I think the control of women and the sort is the only control they have left as the USA has taken all control of their money, futures and military.

  8. Yet the invasion of Afghanistan was supposed to get rid of the Taliban.  Almost seven years later stuff like this is still happening.

  9. It is less than 100 years since women got the vote in the UK

All people are of equal value.

The PC brigade as you call it is more likely to be working for equal rights.

  10. my opinion is that these "cultures" will in time adopt women's lib, just as the rest of the world will. Why cast judgment on them for their faults or their inability to live up to the "British liberal culture"... seems to me that peace and understanding will help these nations grow, not contempt and ridicule.

  11. "Why is it you get the PC brigade on 'your' back if you point out the failings of other cultures?"

It's because their positions on subjects like this are so weak; they HAVE to get on your back or just give it up!
