Traditional strategies effective for Greenshirts despite Europeans rule in game, says Junaid
Former Olympian and the manager of Pakistan national Men’s hockey team Khwaja Junaid, believe that the conventional approach and the habitual strategies are still effective and useful for the Greenshirts.
Khwaja Junaid told that the national team is improving day-by-day by surmounting their weaknesses and flaws and are learning how to implement different strategies and a variety of tactics against different opponents under the guideline of Dutch coach, Michel
van den Heuvel.
“Most European teams are disciplined but predictable. We might concede goals through but in recent months we have overcome our weaker spot. We have to adopt a different approach against different teams but the common aspect is to remain disciplined and execute
the plan,” Khwaja Junaid, the manager of the Pakistan national Men’s hockey team, stated about the strategies they adopt against different European oppositions.
Commenting about the inclusion of a number of junior players instead of some seniors in the team selected to participate in the Asian Champions Trophy going to be held in Ordos, China, from September 3 to 11, the former Olympian stated this is the right
time to observe and analyse the reserve strength for the national team.
“We’ve been relying on our senior players and weren’t able to test our future prospects. So this championship is an opportunity for new players to show their skills,” Khwaja Junaid explained about the inclusion of junior players in the squad.
The Greenshirts will fly to China on Sunday, August 28 to participate in the inaugural edition of the Asian Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Ordos, China from September 3 to 11. The team includes a number of new and young faces namely, Muhammad Umar
Bhutta, Rizwan Junior and Ali Shan while some of the senior players like the drag flicker Sohail Abbas, the striker Rehan Butt and the goalkeeper Salman Akbar are not featuring the national squad for the event.
It will be interesting to see how the young players manage the pressure to perform for Pakistan during the exciting tournament.
