Traditional toshiba TV picture problems

Question

my mum has had her widescreen traditional toshiba TV for 7yrs,the picture has now got vertical lines,the colour is distorted and there seems to be a shadow effect on faces.do you know what the problem is likely to be?And if so is it worth fixing or better to just buy a new TV? We have tryed the ariel/sky on another TV but the picture was fine.
