Question:

Traditional wedding not for us?

Im getting married August 11th. My fiancee and I were thinking that we don't want a traditional wedding with the white dress and everything. I was thinking more of jeans and a Northface pull over. We're laid back people, and so we want our wedding to reflect us. We're not slobs or anything, just chill and relaxed. For the food we're going to hire someone to have a huge bbq. It's going to be more of a bbq than a wedding, and it's going to be at a huge, open field. We live in Tennessee. We have two kids, and im pregnant with our third. My question is, do you think it would be fun for guests? Would you like to go to a wedding like this? We would have all the guests wear everyday clothes too.

You could wear any of the above with cute sandals or flip flops. Your groom could wear a new white linen shirt with khaki pants or shorts and you guys would look casual but very nice.

After all getting married is a huge step and you don't want it to exactly be nothing, but if casual is your style you can go for it but still look radiant and gorgeous.

Congratulations on your wedding and MARRIAGE. And best wishes getting it all together by August 11. You mean 2008 right? WOW!

  3. a denim skirt would be cute. weddings are one day (or many depending on ur family size) when its ok to dress up. have u watched the show my big redneck wedding on cmt it does look like fun!

  4. h**l yea! I would love to go to that kinda of wedding...a band would be fun too!  My wedding is sort of the same thing as well.  Minus the jeans ha ha im just gonna get a nice white dress.  I really dont care about the wedding part but i was my reception to be amazing and fun most of all

  5. Sounds like a riot!

  6. I think it's fine to have a casual wedding.  But, you should still dress up a little.  A NorthFace and jeans, that's what I wear when running to the grocery store.   This is your wedding, so maybe a nice sweater and jeans, instead of the North Face, other than that.  Do what you want.  But, wear something a little bit nicer.  It's your wedding after all.

  7. Hi and congratulations!

First of all....yes, I would enjoy a wedding like that.  I live in a rural area in Michigan where some (not all) of the weddings are more casual and laid back.

I am ALL for comfort, but I think you may be going slightly overboard.  You don't need the Vera Wang gown and all sorts of uncomfortable bras and underwear, but I would think that you would want your wedding to be a day that IS different.  Not just another day.

If it was me, I would wear some nice pants (not jeans) and a pretty blouse (white?)

at least.  Again, I love comfort, and, YES, it is your personality, but there are ways to bring your personality to the wedding (i.e., with the BBQ.....the reception in a field), and still have a "wedding."

Just my opinion.....you do as you want.  No one should tell you what to do.  So, in answer to your question....YES, I would like to go to a wedding like yours.  Will you send me an invite?  Ha!!  lol...JK

Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful day!

  8. be who you are and what you want it to be

    HOWEVER

make it a little bit more special - maybe instead of jeans....a khaki kind of pant? - Make it A LITTLE more special than your "everyday clothes" - but that's just my opinion

  9. I think a casual wedding is cool, but a pullover and jeans is a bit too casual for me.  When people hear wedding, even if you say casual, they're still likely to dress up.  If you're in a pullover and jeans it would seem to me like it's not a big deal for you to get married.  I think you should show you care about it a little more and make it a little more of a special day.  You can still reflect your relaxed personalities, but kick it up a notch!  I'm sure your hubby to be would love to see you a little more done up than you usually are and what a great thing to do for that special day!

  10. And many other couples feel the same.  You can check out offbeat weddings here:

Yes, I would attend a wedding like yours.  I would be happy to do so.

And no, I don't like games.  Games are for bridal showers, and games should be avoided at weddings.  I would not participate in games at a wedding.

Have good music and good food, and everyone will be happy.  But skip the games, please!
