Traditonal housing in Ireland?

Does anyone know about the traditional housing in Ireland? What does it look like? Did it devwelop because of the influence of the country's climate? Is there a native archtiecture, or was it brought by outsiders?

  1. You should check out the Cultra Folk Park at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. Great stuff about housing and traditional labour.


  2. The tiny cottages with thatched roofs? I still see some around, but people prefer slate roofs now.

    You might like to look up the folk village in Bunratty, because there are a lot of reconstructed traditional houses from various regions of Ireland, and you can see the slight differences.

    Very few people live in houses like these anymore though - we have developed a taste for big places.
