Do you go through amber traffic lights or even red just because you cant wait a few minuets longer to get where your going. Im sick of people doing this and it seems to be getting worse. Everyone has to watch out for the nutter coming at them at great speed just because they wont wait.

  1. The amber light is used to send a very easy message to drivers, but at the same time, when approaching a green light and it changes as u reach it the decision of whether to go or stop can be a very tough call.

If your reaction to an amber light is to slam on the brakes, then this is more often than not the wrong thing to do.

If you haven't got time to "safely" check your mirrors for vehicles behind and hit the brakes then it is best to just drive through the amber light.

Most drivers approaching lights with a vehicle in front of them will normally expect the front car to travel through the amber. Their thought will then switch to whether they are going to "run" the light, and therefore their attention is drawn away from the fact that the front car has come to a stop!

  2. An Amber traffic light means stop unless you have already crossed the white line, or it would be too dangerous to stop.

The correct way to approach a green traffic light is to check your mirrors so that you already have the information to make your decision to stop or go if the light changes.

Based on this information, i make my stop/go decision. You should always have enough time to stop before the light turns red.

Yes, there are far too many morons running red lights - sometimes 2 or 3 at a time! I put it down mainly to imatience, lack of respect for the law and downright ignorance!

  3. I'll speed through any yellow light, because yellow means to clear the intersection.  But I never run a red light, thats just stupid...

  4. It depends on if there are cars close behind me as to whether I'll run a yellow light.  I got rear ended a few months ago because I stopped (with plenty of room to slow down) at a yellow light and ever since, I've been pretty hesitant and paranoid when I see a yellow light.  I usually stop, but if I hesitate too much, then I end up going through it.

I never run red lights though, and often wait a few seconds when the light turns green to avoid cars that have run the other red light!

  5. Generally I approach a green light believing that it'll change before I reach it. A minute or two waiting is frustrating but that's all it is.

I have seen some horrible situations caused by bloody-minded-selfish-git-headed-idiots who jump red lights. It's just not worth it.

Incidentally, a woman was jailed recently for killing a motorcyclist while she was using a mobile phone. Fair enough, she shouldn't have been doing that. But what about the biker? He had jumped a red light so he should have shared the responsibility for his death. That bit was barely reported. It would have been a different situation if he survived but killed (say) a cyclist.

  6. No I don't and when approaching a light I always start to slow down and get prepared just in case the light should turn amber and then red.

  7. A lot of the time, I get caught out when the light changes to amber and I have not enough time so I have to go through, but I never intentionally do that. I think you have to take into account if theres an a*****e right up behnd you. I would never ever go through a red light.. its just not worth it. My pet hate is when there is a fair bit of traffic and say the first 3 or 4 cars want to turn right, by the time they have all turned the light is turning red. The person that was waiting, then goes straight across because they they tink they have waited long enough and carry on regardless that the light has now turned red.
