Question:

Traffic Violation?

Yesterday I was driving in my car and I was pretty sure I ran a red light but I am not positive. I also think a cop saw me do it but I am also not positive. Before this occured there was an emergency just a little bit to the south that all police officers neraby were responding to. Here are my questions. Do your front wheels have to be past the crosswalk line in order to be legally going through a red light or is it your back tires? Is there any cop in the world that would not pull anyone over if they saw them go through a red light? Is it possible the cop was still responding to the emergency? Or was he being nice and just decided to cut me loose? Is there a chance he might not have seen me? Is it possible to not be to the intersection and speed up and still make it throught the light? Thank you guys so much for answering this question. No matter what I am extremely lucky that I did not get pulled over and it could have been a lot worse.

  1. Too many questions.

I never stopped anyone unless the light turned red before their vehicle entered the intersection, that being the designated stopping point (the solid white line before the marked crosswalk). The other questions are irrelevant, since you didn't get stopped. BUT...bear in mind, there are more redlight cameras being put up everywhere, and they go off in like .3 seconds (to my best recollection) after the light turns red.

  2. except for the streightforward question about where your tires are across the crosswalk which i think its if your car moves basically to the center of the intersection but not sure there. as far as the other many many questions, you are dealing in hypotheticals because we dont know at any given time what each officer is thinking or feeling. whether any officer in the world will give you a ticket for passing in the red light that depends on the country and again the officer... as far as speeding up to make it through the red light, thats a sure bet to get you a nice ticket since its the speeding up that causes the most serious accidents.. i hope that helps you.
