Question:

Traffic court how is this fair?

I got a ticket for a questionable reason so I thought Id fight it in court. They never tell you you'll have to face the states lawyer. It's so pointless I'm going to hire a $2000 dollar lawyer over a $125 ticket?

Does that setup sound fair?

  1. Again, you do NOT have to hire an attorney for a simple traffic violation.  However, you must realize that if you choose to represent yourself, then it is your word against the charging officer's word.  Of course you will be facing the charging officer's counsel (the "state's lawyer"), that's how charges are made.  Good luck.

  2. No, it isn't fair. But that's the way it is.

I went to court for a ticket which I didn't deserve. What I didn't know was, regardless of my innocence, I was going to be found guilty just because I walked into the court room. It's a scam... and it's all about revenue. They don't care about fairness in a court room.

The guy that has 17 years of law enforcement experience can back me up on this. He's probably seen a lot of injustice.

  3. You do not need to hire a lawyer to contest a traffic citation. If the ticket was as questionable as you claim, you can represent yourself.

You may want to consider contacting another attorney. $2000 seems steep for a simple traffic charge.

  4. In most traffic courts you just face the judge. If you got an OWI, then you may consider getting a lawyer. I do not know what state you are in?
