Traffic on Sundays?

Is there less traffic on freeways on Sunday in the afternoon? Reason I'm asking is I'm driving on a freeway for the first time by myself today, so I was hoping that the traffic is not too heavy.

generally feeways are less congested on saturday and sunday because not everyone has to be at work like on the weekdays.

Traffic is generally lighter especially if you're going outbound from a major city.  Inbound traffic might be a little heavier since people could be driving home from vacation.  There is less traffic in either direction early Sunday morning.

No sunday afternoon is usually fairly busy with people coming back home from the weekend.
